About the Webinar

Best practices and lessons learned are powerful tools used to assess an organization’s readiness and initial activities associated with delivering a Data Governance program. There are two criteria to determine if something is best practice for your organization. And the definition of data governance best practice is best way to learn from others and begin with the end in mind.

Bob Seiner will share industry data governance best practices in this month’s installment of the RWDG webinar series. Learn how to use the best practices defined in this webinar to address opportunities to improve your organization’s data governance implementation. Attend this webinar and learn that assessing your organization may not be as difficult as you think.

During this webinar Bob will discuss:

  • How to define data governance best practices for your organization
  • Criteria used to determine if a practice is best practice
  • How to assess your organization against industry best practice
  • Assessing risks associated with best practice gaps
  • Addressing opportunities to improve gaps uncovered in the assessment

Data Governance Winter Conference 2017: How to Get Started with Data Governance @ Delray Beach, Florida
Dec 4 @ 8:30 am – 11:45 am

How to Get Started with Data Governance
Robert S. Seiner, Publisher/President, TDAN.com/KIK Consulting

Tutorial – Monday, December 4, 2017 – 8:30-11:45 am

When building a Data Governance program for a financial organization, there are two different ways to collect and use the metadata that moves the organization toward formalized accountability. Organizations can purchase or use software tools that are currently available on the market or they can build tools internally specific to their programs requirements. It is less expensive to start by building your own tools.

In this session with Bob Seiner, he will share several governance artifacts (tools that you can develop yourself) that are specifically focused on the needs of a financial organization. These artifacts can be used to enact stewards, engage them in governed processes, and communicate and enforce compliance and privacy rules. Attend this session and you will walk away with tangible tools to move your data governance program forward.

In this session, Bob will share:

  • The advantage of building your own tools first
  • Requirements for tools you can build yourself
  • Several key artifacts to execute authority over data
  • How to use the tools to benefit your organization
  • How to build artifacts that are easy to explain and use

Data Governance Winter Conference 2017: How to Save a Failing Data Governance Program @ Delray Beach, Florida
Dec 4 @ 1:00 pm – 4:15 pm

How to Save a Failing Data Governance Program
Robert S. Seiner, Publisher/President, TDAN.com/KIK Consulting

Tutorial – Monday, December 4, 2017 – 1:00-4:15 pm

Data Governance programs tend to take a long time to get started, to gain momentum and to demonstrate measurable value to the organization. Over this period, programs often fail to sustain the level of enthusiasm that existed when the program was just starting. There are many reasons for this. Management interest wanes, new projects grab people’s interests and work group meetings cease to be efficient and effective.

In this tutorial, Bob Seiner will identify and address the reasons why Data Governance programs fall apart or fail to be sustainable over lengthy periods. The initial approach to developing the program has something to do with it but lack of focus on essential program components is the true villain. Bob will share techniques that he has developed to assure long term program health.

Learn:

  • Ways to recognize that your Program is Dying
  • Core Program Components that Require Sustained Attention
  • Steps to Follow to Prevent an Early Program Demise
  • Ways to Extend Program Enthusiasm
  • How to Assure Program Continuity and Longevity

About the Webinar

Big Data and Smart Data are key focuses in an organization’s attempt to make the best possible use of all available data sources. The Internet of Things and Data Lakes are being used to collect and report on a variety of new data sources that also maximize an organization’s ability to get the most from their data.

Join Bob Seiner and a special guest for this month’s installment of the RWDG webinar series to investigate how data governance relates to the latest and greatest technologies and applies discipline focused on bolstering your organization’s ability to leverage innovative data sources. The data world is changing and data practitioners are the heart of the changes.

In this webinar Bob and his guest will discuss:

  • The relationship between Big Data, Smart Data, and Data Governance
  • The relationship between the Internet of Things, Data Lakes, and Data Governance
  • How the Internet of Things and Data Lakes change the way we govern data
  • Extending existing data governance programs to embrace these technologies
